Finding the right lamp seems simple—until you have to choose between LED lamps, wall lights, solar lamps, table lamps and sensor-controlled lighting. A product may look attractive, yet prove impractical because of a cable that is too short, insufficient brightness or an unsuitable IP rating.
As a Joybuy Product Recommendation Officer, I filter product information against verifiable specifications. This helps you quickly identify which lamp suits your bedroom, nursery, hallway, workspace, bathroom, balcony or garden.
Lumens indicate how much light a lamp emits according to its product specifications. This does not automatically mean the lighting will be comfortable in every room. A 20-lumen night light is designed for soft orientation lighting, while 300 to 400 lumens may be more practical for a hallway, cupboard or exterior wall.
Also pay attention to the colour temperature:
Always check the IP rating. IP44 means protection against splashing water, but not against immersion or powerful water jets. A lamp with IP20 is intended for dry indoor spaces and should not be used in a bathroom, on an open terrace or in a damp shed.
For bathroom lighting, you must also consider the prescribed safety zones and installation instructions. A wall light described as suitable for humid conditions is not automatically suitable for every location in a bathroom.
Wireless lamps usually run on batteries or rechargeable batteries. With solar lamps, placement is crucial: without sufficient direct daylight, the battery may not charge effectively. USB charging is therefore a useful additional option.
With motion-sensor lamps, check whether the sensor detects movement only or also responds to daylight. Also consider the mounting method. Magnetic mounting is convenient, but the surface must be clean, flat and sufficiently magnetic.
Do not choose based on appearance alone. For a desk or reading area, focused lighting is often more practical than a soft ambient lamp. An adjustable table lamp or lamp head can direct the light more effectively onto a work surface.
For a hallway, cupboard or staircase, a light sensor or motion sensor can make everyday use more convenient. However, check whether the lamp is dimmable and how it is operated. Some models use a switch, while others feature gesture control or an automatic sensor.
There are three common options:
With fixed wall lights, such as a model with an E14 fitting, the bulbs are not always included. Check whether you need to purchase LED bulbs separately and whether the fitting and maximum wattage are compatible.
Measure the available space before placing your order. A wall light measuring 57 centimetres wide requires a different amount of wall space from a compact lamp of approximately 10 centimetres. Also check the weight and the included mounting materials.
Glass and metal can create a modern look, while ABS plastic is often used for lightweight, wireless models. The material alone says little about whether a lamp is suitable for outdoor use; the IP rating and installation instructions are more important.
Why this profile fits: This compact night light is designed for a bedroom, nursery, hallway or cupboard where soft orientation lighting is all you need.
The product specifications state 20 lumens and warm white light at 2,800–3,200 K. It is therefore clearly intended as accent lighting rather than a primary light source.
SMD LED, 0.5 W and automatic activation via a light sensor. Check the stated 110–220 V supply voltage before installation.
Why this profile fits: The combination of clear glass, gold-tone metal and a geometric design complements modern lighting schemes in hallways, living rooms or bedrooms.
The lamp uses fixed 220–240 V wiring. This eliminates confusion about batteries, but safe installation by a qualified professional is required.
Two E14 fittings, adjustable light direction and a maximum of 40 W per bulb. E14 bulbs are not included.
Why this profile fits: An ideal option for a façade, shed, balcony or garden path where you would rather not install a power cable.
The product specifications state IP44 and a solar panel. Position the lamp where the panel receives direct daylight; IP44 does not protect against immersion.
Two lighting modes, a motion sensor and a stated output of 400 lumens per light point. The fixture runs on solar power.
Why this profile fits: Suitable for anyone looking for wireless wall lights for a hallway, terrace, balcony, garage or garden.
The lamp has an IP44 rating and is splash-resistant according to the product specifications, but it must not be immersed or exposed to powerful water jets.
300 lumens, warm white light at 3,000 K, an integrated motion sensor, USB power and magnetic mounting.

For a bedside lamp or orientation lighting, a low light output may be sufficient. Reading or working requires more light. In addition to lumens, consider the light distribution, colour temperature and whether the lamp can be dimmed.
Not always. A solar lamp needs sufficient daylight to charge its battery. On a north-facing balcony, beneath a canopy or behind thick glass, the output may be lower. A model with USB charging offers greater flexibility in these situations.
IP44 means that the lamp is protected against solid particles measuring 1 millimetre or more and against splashing water. It does not guarantee protection against immersion, high-pressure water or prolonged exposure to heavy rain. Always follow the manufacturer’s installation and safety instructions.
