A dog and cat carrier may seem straightforward to choose at first. Yet a bag that looks spacious and sturdy in product photos can sometimes prove too small, difficult to clean or unsuitable for an active pet. You will quickly notice whether a dog carrier, cat carrier or transport crate meets your needs during vet visits, car journeys and holidays.
So do not focus only on colour and price. Above all, check the dimensions, maximum weight, ventilation and how your pet is secured.
A carrier for small dogs is often advertised with a weight range, but weight alone does not tell you enough. A dog or cat must also be able to sit, turn around and lie down comfortably. Measure the length from the nose to the base of the tail, and the height from the floor to the top of the head.

Before a longer journey, help your dog or cat get used to the cat carrier or dog carrier. First, leave the bag open at home and place a familiar blanket inside. Gradually increase the time your pet spends in it, and check while carrying it that the base remains level.

Transporting a pet while travelling also requires breaks. A carrier is not a permanent living space. Do not leave your pet confined and unattended for extended periods.
